Home form leaves the Gunners in strong position for Schalke’s visit

Bet on football spreadsSchalke will travel to North London on the back of two successive Bundesliga victories, the most recent of which came at champions Borussia Dortmund. The 2-1 defeat at Dortmund lifted the club into third place, but they still have a huge task ahead of themselves if they are to beat Arsenal at the Emirates in Europe.

The Gunners have started with two Champions League triumphs this season to open a two point cushion on their next opponents. That should come of no surprise given that the Gunners are unbeaten in 16 successive European home matches, since losing to Man United in the 2008/09 campaign.

That 3-1 defeat to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side was the only one in their last 44 home games in the competition, with the remaining matches yielding 33 victories and ten draws.

Further encouragement for the Gunners is that Schalke have a poor record in England, with four defeats and a draw from their five visits.
